FAQ

What Is Counselling

Counselling is a talking therapy. People can seek help from a counsellor or psychotherapist in a confidential space to discuss any areas of life with which they are experiencing difficulty, be it past or present issues.

Knowing where to begin or how to make changes, to yourself or aspects of your life, might feel bewildering and overwhelming. Counselling can help you navigate through the confusion towards a path that feels right for you.

Counselling promotes insight, fosters self-awareness and creates a stronger, more resilient sense of self. This powerful combination can be the kick-start for the changes in your life you wish to make.

It might be that you just need someone to listen without judgement, who will understand your struggles - counselling provides this.

Who Is Counselling For

Anyone! Mental health is an important aspect of our overall well-being.

Therapy can benefit our general day-to-day happiness, our relationships, and our life choices.

Counselling can help those experiencing crises to manage emergent, sometimes distressing, feelings.
It can also assist those who have past issues or traumas which are having negative effects on the present.
Sometimes, just having a space to process and make sense of the thoughts that jumble around our heads is invaluable.

Having counselling does not mean that a person is mentally un-well; counselling can contribute positively for anyone who values their mental health and well-being.

The stigma around mental health is thankfully shifting. People are approaching their mental health in the same manner as their physical health - that it is okay to ask for help or seek guidance when needed.

What You Can Expect From Me

My integrative training means that I have a varied knowledge base to understand different issues that you might wish to bring.

The most important element of the therapy is our relationship. I provide a welcoming, safe and confidential space to explore any issues you choose. You will be listened to free from judgement. I believe my compassionate and gentle approach will help build your trust in me to share whatever you need to talk about.

Perhaps you need to understand yourself, your relationships or events from your past. Together, we can look gently and sensitively, at your pace, at the issues you feel are important.

Sometimes all we need is someone to just listen and hear our story.

I review therapy regularly. This helps us determine which areas our attention is best focused on, or perhaps change our focus onto new issues which may have arisen, and which you’d like to explore.
I am guided by you throughout, this is a collaborative process and it’s important you are getting what you need from your therapy sessions.
